Abstract
878,064. Photographic diffusion transfer materials and processes. ILFORD Ltd. June 1, 1960 [June 12, 1959; July 20,1959], Nos. 20284/59 and 24878/59. Class 98(2) The material comprises a transparent film support, a reception layer containing nuclei, a white pigmented colloid layer or alternatively the presence of pigment in the reception layer, and a thin layer of gelatino silver halide emulsion. Exposure from the emulsion side and processing in the presence of a silver halide solvent as by immersion or application of developer solely to the emulsion surface, provides a positive image in the reception layer which can be viewed through the support against the background of the pigment. Preferably a neutralizing material such as acid phosphate is included in the reception layer, and the layer sequence has the advantage that such substance is inoperative until the developer penetrates the emulsion. Numerous further features and modifications include use of a viscous developer, retention of such on the emulsion by the presence of a further sheet which may or may not be removed, use of an outer, light-insensitive emulsion layer to provide a reservoir of silver halide and increase intensity of the positive image, and the incorporation of antihalation substances. A specific example of material and developer is provided. Specifications 614,155, 654,631, 746,948, 751,955 and 875,644 are referred to.
