Abstract
878,045. Transformers. PERKIN-ELMER CORPORATION. March 31, 1959 [March 31, 1958], No. 10871/59. Class 38 (2). A voltage varying linearly with movement of contact 29 is obtained from tappings 1-11 of toroidally wound auto-transformer 20 by auxiliary windings 21, 22 wound on the same core and each developing half the inter-tap voltage. Contact 29 moves to tap a smoothlyvarying voltage from winding 21 or 22 (or resistances connected across them, Figs. 3 and 5, not shown). One end of each of the windings 21, 22 is connected in succession through sliprings 25, 26 to the tappings 1-11 by a switch operating with the moving contact 29, so that the voltage obtained from 29 is the sum of the voltage of the tapping in use together with the voltage obtained from the auxiliary winding connected thereto. The switching mechanism may be as described in Specification 765,124 or may be an arrangement of Geneva gears.
