877,891. Change-speed gear. ZAHNRADFABRIK FRIEDRICHSHAFEN A.G. Sept. 15, 1958 [Sept. 14, 1957], No. 29534/58. Class 80 (2). [Also in Group XXXI] A tractor change-speed gear comprises a countershaft 44, Fig. 1, driven at four speeds from an input shaft 1 through selected cluster gears 45 ... 48 and coupled to an output shaft 41 through selected alternative gear trains to provide a second group of four speed ratios. The drive between the countershaft 44 and the output shaft 41 comprises an auxiliary shaft 55 carrying a pinion 60 in constant engagement with a pinion 61 on the output shaft and also comprises a gear cluster 52, 53 which is freely rotatable on a bearing 49 surrounding the output shaft 41 and having a gear 52 in constant mesh with a gear 50 on the end of the countershaft 44. The auxiliary shaft 55 may be selectively engaged with the shaft 44 through dogs 51, 57 to drive the output shaft 41 through gears 60, 61 at normal ratios. Alternatively, a gear 54 splined on the shaft 55 is moved to engage the gear 53 so that the output shaft is driven through gears 50-54, 60, 61 at reduced ratios. Reverse gear through the normal ratios which are still engaged is obtained through a composite gear 67, 68, Fig. 3, slidable on a shaft 63 parallel to the shaft 55, and having the gear 68 in constant mesh with the gear 54 while the gear 67 is selectively engageable with the gear 52. Selectable drives for a pair of power take-off shafts 16, 17 are described in Group XXXI. Specification 799,012 is referred to.
