Abstract
877,776. Electric heating resistances. GENERAL ELECTRIC CO. Ltd. June 8, 1960 [June 8, 1959], No. 19512/59. Class 39(3). In an electric heating element comprising a cylindrical heat-resisting sheet-metal member, e.g. of tantalum, having longitudinal slots 5 extending from its ends, strengthening flanges 8 are provided along slot edges by metal displaced to form the slots. The element shown is designed for use in a vacuum furnace and may be connected to a three-phase supply by three supports each comprising two bar members 17 and 18 separated at their ends to form parallel parts which can be clamped to watercooled feeders (not shown). An aperture 20 is provided in each support to form a heat barrier. The metal at the ends of the cylinder is bent outwardly to form flanges 12 and 13.
