Abstract
875,854. Cramps. RAINHAM TIMBER ENGINEERING CO. Ltd. June 14, 1960 [July 15, 1959], No. 24289/59. Class 61. Apparatus for cramping superimposed layers of material comprises a rigid, elongated bed plate 1 having side members 2; 3 secured thereto as by bolts 4 and defining with the bed-plate a channel of desired width and length for receiving the material to be cramped, a cramping head 5 adjustably secured between the side members so that the spacing between the bed plate and the cramping head may be varied and one or more inflatable members 9 arranged between the material and the cramping head. The cramping head consists of a number of short lengths 5 of channel disposed end to end between the side plates, each length being supported in position by a pin 6 passed through holes in its flanges and in the side plates 2, 3 which are provided with a series of holes 7. One or more lengths of hose pipe 9 or other inflatable member are arranged on top of the pack of timber boards 8 and beneath the clamping head 5 which is so adjusted that the hose pipe is somewhat compressed. Pressure fluid, air or water is then applied to the interior of the pipe. Additional inflatable members 10 are arranged between the material 8 and the bed plate for lifting the material clear of the bed plate after the cramping operation has been completed and the cramping head removed.
