Abstract
The corrosion resistance of beryllium is improved by arc melting the metal in vacuo or in an inert gas at sub-atmospheric pressure. Thus beryllium powder may be melted under argon in an arc struck between tungsten electrodes or a consumable electrode of beryllium may be melted in vacuo. The arc melting stage can be repeated and the resultant ingot may be crushed to powder, pressed and sintered or may be fabricated directly by forging or extrusion.
