Abstract

875,257. Automatic firearms. MAUSERWERKE A. G. Nov. 25, 1957 [Nov. 24, 1956], No. 36714/57. Class 92. Relates to fixed-barrel automatic guns in which the opening of the breech by blow-back action is temporarily delayed by locking means until the pressure has fallen in the barrel. According to the invention the gun has a three-part breech block assembly comprising front and rear parts which are connected so as to permit limited relative longitudinal movement, the front part being adapted to close the breech and to be locked thereto temporarily, in which position the rear part abuts the front part. The breech block assembly also comprises a control member supported in a bore in the rear part and slidable within the front part to effect the locking and unlocking thereof and a spring-urged inertia member is mounted in the rear part for displacement forwardly thereof into a position for delaying rearward movement of the control member after breech closure. Spring means are provided to urge the breech block assembly to the closed and locked position. In one form, in a hammefired firearm, the breech block assembly comprises front and rear portions 20, 12 Fig. 2 and a the tool, a spring 8 on the movable section to return it to the normal position, a slot 10 for the muzzle in the movable section and a cam slot 14 which maintains the slot covered with assistance from the spring. In the construction shown in Fig. 1 the section 2 slides in channels 6 of guides 7 which house the springs 8. In that in Fig. 4 the section 2 slides in grooves in the ram 16 of the section 1 operating against a lock spring 19. In both constructions the cover 11 which carries the slot 10 is pivoted at 12.
