Class 117 A non-reticulated parallel wire screen for vibratory or non-vibratory screening comprises a substantially planar rigid screening surface constituted by parallel equi-spaced individually tensioned wires 4 and rigid members 10 supporting and locating the wires at intervals along their working length. As shown in Fig. 4 each wire is tethered at one eyeletted end to a pin 5 on a bar 3 and at the other end to a rotatable tensioning key 6, the top surfaces of the members 10 being aranged to give the screen surface a slight camber longitudinally of the wires. Fig. 8 shows an alternative arrangement wherein each wire is tensioned by a levering tool 19 and clamped in tensioned position by a split conical device 17 located in a tapered hole. The screen wires may be electrically heated and spring means provided to take up the elongation due to expansion. Fig. 12 shows a mobile vibratory screen 32 mounted in a frame 33 with its surface inclined to the horizontal in a direction parallel to the wires and set in motion by straps 38 embracing eccentric discs 37, the discs being mounted on a shaft 35 driven by a belt 42 from an electric motor 40. A conveyer belt 45 removes material which passes through the screen and a further conveyer belt may be provided to remove material passing over the screen's lower end. Tension springs 48 stabilize the frame 33 during its vibratory movement.
