874,940. Capacitors. TELEPHONE MANUFACTURING CO. Ltd. June 3, 1960, No. 19724/60. Class 37. A capacitor formed of two films 1, 2, each metallized 3, 4, has the metallizing at the opposite longitudinal edges burnt off 5, 6, by applying D.C. or R.F. current to the film through shaped rollers, thereby causing the coating to evaporate. Connections to the unit are made at the ends 7, the cleared marginal portions improving the insulating resistance of the capacitor. Coating 4 extends beyond coating 3, and is thus indicated as the outer electrode. The rollers used for burning off the metallizing also have markings 8 indicative of the capacitance, and so positioned as to indicate, e.g. which terminal is positive. The markings are in the form of metal left on the film.
