Abstract

874,731. Cable and wire couplings. BRITISH INSULATED CALLENDERS CABLES Ltd. March 19, 1959 [March 19, 1958], No. 8798/58. Class 38 (1). A jointing ferrule for electric conductors comprises two identical metal parts 1, 2 adapted to be fitted together by relative axial sliding movement of the two parts, the joint between one or more conductors and the ferrule being permanently made by deforming the ferrule and the parts of the conductors passing through it. Fig. 2 shows main and branch conductors 18, 19, occupying the space provided by the ferrule before the latter is indented at 21, Fig. 3. In Fig. 5, a ferrule has a rectangular cross-section and lateral tongues 12 project in opposite directions; the main conductor is uncut, Fig. 6 (not shown). Fig. 9 shows a branch conductor secured in a separate ferrule 26 welded or brazed to the part 1 of the ferrule receiving the main conductor 18. An indenting tool, Fig. 11, includes a fixed jaw 31 adapted to retain a ferrule in position, and an indenting projection 35.
