Abstract
The invention comprises bivalent metal lakes of monoazo dyes of formula:- <FORM:0874220/IV(c)/1> wherein R is the residue of a 1-aryl-5-pyrazolone coupled in the 4-position and containing at least one sulphonic and/or carboxylic acid group. They are prepared by diazotizing 5-nitro-2-aminobenzoic acid, coupling it with a suitable pyrazolone and forming the metal lake by known methods. The lakes are used to colour lacquers, paints and graphic prints in yellow shades. In examples 5-nitro-2-aminobenzoic acid is diazotized and coupled with 1-(31- or 41-sulphophenyl)-or -(21 : 51-dichloro-41-sulphophenyl)- or -(41-carboxyphenyl)- or -(21-chloro- 41-sulphophenyl)-or -(21-hydroxy-31-carboxy-51-sulphophenyl)- or -(61-sulphonaphthyl-[21])- 3-methyl- 5-pyrazolone and the calcium, barium or magnesium lake formed.
