863,867. Bed-settees. VI-SPRING PRODUCTS Ltd., and NEWBORN, J. T. Nov. 19, 1958 [Nov. 21, 1957], No. 36340/57. Class 52(2). In a bed settee with a seat member 11 sloping downwardly from front to rear in the seat position the rear of the seat is supported on castor assemblies 19 carried on rods 31 movable in a tube 23 carried by a plate 22 secured to the seat frame so that the seat may be rendered level when used as a bed. The back rest 12 hinged at 42 to the rear edge of seat member 11 is held in the upright position by a sloping stay 13 having a hook 14 to engage a pin 15 and pivoted at its lower end to plate 22 and carrying a cam 34 which engages a channel member 25 pivoted to the plate 22 at 24 and having its lower flange rear end formed as a fork 28 embracing a flattened portion 29 of rod 31, the pivot rod 33 of stay 13 passing through a slot 32 in member 25 so that angular movement of the stay causes the castor assembly 19 to be raised or lowered. A stop pin 39 on plate 22 limits the upward movement of member 28 and together with flat portion 38 of the cam maintains stay 13 in its horizontal position.
