Abstract
The invention comprises ferrocene derivatives of formula <FORM:0861834/IV (b)/1> wherein, of R1 and R2, one stands for hydrogen and the other for an acyl radical other than the pivalyl radical, of formula-CO.R3, where R3 is alkyl, cycloalkyl, aryl, substituted aryl, aralkyl or aralkenyl. Preferably R3 contains up to 8 carbon atoms, such as methyl, ethyl, isopropyl, neopentyl, 2:4:4-trimethyl-n-pentyl, cyclo-hexyl, phenyl, p-chlorophenyl, o-chlorophenyl, benzyl or trans-b -phenylvinyl. The compounds may be prepared by acylation of neopentyl ferrocene using an acid anhydride or acid halide, preferably in the presence of a solvent (diethyl ether, nitrobenzene, carbon disulphide, nitro-methane, methylene dichloride or ethylene dichloride) and of an acidic catalyst, e.g. a Friedel-Crafts catalyst such as aluminium chloride, boron fluoride, zinc chloride or hydrofluoric acid. Reaction preferably takes place between - 20 DEG and 100 DEG C.
