Abstract

861,168. Pencil holders. FABER-CASTELL R. G. VON, [trading as FABER-CASTELL, A. W. [Firm of]]. May 4, 1959 [May 10, 1958], No. 15239/59. Class 146(3). A pencil lead holder comprises a body portion 1 having a relatively large outer diameter and tapering ends, a collet 4 for gripping exchangeable pencil leads, and a plunger 2 reciprocable within a bore in the body portion 1 to operate the collet 4 and projecting from the end of the body portion, the length of the projecting portion of the plunger being substantially equal to that of the body portion. The plunger 2 is connected to the collet 4 by a rod 6 and is biased rearwards by a spring 7 disposed between the front face of the plunger 2 and the rear end of a connecting sleeve 10. The sleeve 10 is screwed into the body portion 1, which is of wood or a similar light material, and a tip 3, which is of metal or a plastic, to secure these parts together. The collet 4 has spring tongues 11 having outer surfaces 12 which are engaged by the tip 3. Depression of the plunger 2, which is also made of wood, causes the tongues 11 to spring apart and release a piece of lead 14 gripped therebetween for renewal.
