Abstract
Acenaphthenequinone monoxime is prepared by reacting acenaphthalene in an acid medium with dinitrogen trioxide together with oxygen or air or with nitrous acid in an alcohol or in a cyclic ether, the alcohol or ether being free from water or containing up to about 10% by weight of water, at a temperature in the range 0 DEG -60 DEG C. The nitrous acid may be prepared in situ. Examples are given.
