[Also in Group XXIV] To improve the wearing surfaces of flat, multi-groove or V driving or conveyer belts having rubber or rubber impregnated fabric surfaces, fibre-flock is randomly deposited on an adhesive cement applied to the belt surface prior to vulcanizing, so that during vulcanizing the fibres become embedded in the rubber. As applied to a multi-groove belt the fibre-flock is applied to a flat surface to be grooved in the vulcanizing press, the pressing then re-orientates the fibres so that more than half lie transversely of the belt, thus increasing the lateral stiffness and decreasing the longitudinal stiffness of the belt.
