868,162. Magnetic work-holders. JONES & SHIPMAN Ltd., A. A., and HOULDSWORTH, J. Feb. 12, 1960 [March 16, 1959], No. 9093/59. Class 60. [Also in Group XXII] A device for supporting workpieces during grinding comprises a body 8, Figs. 1 and 4, having an arrangement of vertically-adjustable plungers 1 mounted therein, together with thrust-transmitting vertically disposed packing- pieces 4 between the plungers and fluid-pressure means for exerting pressure laterally to clamp the plungers and packing-pieces. The device maybe-used in conjunction with a magnetic chuck in which case magnetically insulated pole-pieces 20 are provided in the body 8 to correspond with pole-pieces in the magnetic chuck. Alternatively the device may be built into the magnetic chuck. Specification 733,919 is referred to.
