Abstract

Class 59 A roller crusher comprises rotatable crushing rollers 2, 3, a feed hopper 9 having its discharge throat 10 in direct communication with the nip of the rollers, an adjustable diverter plate 11 arranged in the throat 10 to control the material passing to the nip of the rollers, means for moving the roller 3 relative to the roller 2 to vary the crushing pressure, and a releasing mechanism for stones or other foreign matter which operates to move the roller 3 away from the roller 2 in such manner as to release the stones &c. without altering the adjustment of the means for varying the crushing pressure. The plate 11 is angularly adjustable by means of a rod 15 connected to a link 16 which is angularly adjustable by turning a handle 18, alternatively, the rod 15 may pass through a block and be adjustable by means of a set screw. The roller 3 is pressed against the roller 2 by means of a spring assembly 22, Fig. 5, mounted in a channel-shaped member 22a and bearing at its ends on pressure arms 23, which are loosely connected at 23a to the member 22a and attached at their other ends to the bearings of the roller 3, and being secured to a plunger 24 slidable in an end plate 25 secured to the machine frame 1. The plunger 24 bears on the inclined face of a block 43 provided on a spindle 39 adjustable by means of a hand wheel 41. Alternatively, the plunger may be screwthreaded and operated directly by means of a hand wheel. The spindle 39 is mounted on projections 37, 38 formed on a member 28. The member 28 is hinged at its upper end to a projection 26 on the end plate 25 and formed at its lower end with lugs 30 which are releasably locked in a recess 33 in a projection 27 on the end plate 25 by means of a pin 31 formed with a central cut-away portion 32. The lugs 30 are released by rotating the pin 31 through 180 degrees by means of a locking arm 34 to allow the member 28 to be raised in the direction of the arrow X and, through a link 36, move the roller 3 away from the roller 2 to release any stones &c. from between the nip of the rollers. The roller 3 is rotated from the roller 2 which is rotated by means of a belt and pulley drive 4 from an electric motor 5 mounted on an adjustable bed plate 6. The power supply to the motor 5 is controlled by means of an automatic cut-off mechanism comprising flaps 46, 54, Fig. 4. The flap 46 is mounted on a spring- influenced arm 49 pivotable about a fulcrum 50 to operate a microswitch 57 to open, or close, a circuit to the motor according as insufficient, or sufficient crushed material impinges on the flap. The flap 54 is pivotable about a fulcrum 55 in the direction of the arrow P to open the motor circuit when sufficient crushed material piles up underneath the rollers 2, 3. The rollers 2, 3 are provided with scrapers 62, 63.
