Abstract

867,497. Fencing. LILWALL, R. J. Sept. 5, 1957 [June 8, 1956], No. 17712/56. Class 45. [Also in Group XXX] A tensioning device for an electrified fence comprises a spring reel 50 which is secured to post 35 by means of clamp screw 34 and a straining reel (not shown), which is secured to post 36, the fence wire 38 being connected to wire 16 of the reel 50 by the loop 16A. The wire is strained by the straining reel, the wire 16 being drawn off the spring reel till the whole fence is tight, the posts 37 holding up the wire. Operation. When it is desired to reposition the posts whilst avoiding the wire sagging to the ground, the straining reel is operated to slacken the wire to permit the spring reel 50 to take up its wire 16, the amount of take-up being limited by the engagement of abutment 29 with fairlead 26, 26. Post 35 is then moved to position 35A, and sequentially the posts 37 are moved to positions 37A, post 36 being finally moved to position 36A. The straining reel (positioned at 36) is then operated to draw the wire off the spring reel and then to tighten the wire.
