Abstract

The transparency of films or other materials of polyethylene or like crystalline polyolefines is improved by heating the material until it becomes transparent, rapidly cooling it and then subjecting it to irradiation with high energy ionizing radiation using a sufficient dose to render the transparency of the material resistant to subsequent heating to the transition point and slow cooling. In addition to polyethylene the polymer may be polypropylene, an ethylenepropylene copolymer or a copolymer, including a graft or block polymer of ethylene or propylene with a minor amount of isobutylene, amylene, butadiene or 1- or 2- butene. Reference has been directed by the Comptroller to Specification 818,963.
