866,154. Sheet-delivery apparatus. INTERNATIONAL BUSINESS MACHINES CORPORATION. April 15, 1959 [April 17, 1958), No. 12753/59. Class 100(1) Apparatus for stacking record cards comprises a card receptacle 18 to which cards are fed in a horizontal plane by rollers 21, 70, and abutment and guiding means are provided in the receptacle whereby the cards are pivoted and turned so that they form a stack S on edge and in a plane at right angles to the plane in which they enter the receptacle. A card leaving the rollers 21, 70 is guided by a tongue 22, then deflected by a shear plate 23, and arrested by angled member 26 having an inclined ledge on to which one edge of the card comes to rest on leaving the plate 23. The card drops, pivoting about the inclined ledge, and the opposite edge of the card is guided by a member 27 so that it drops on to a base block 34 and rests on the stack S which is supported by an inclined plate 36 on a wire frame 35. Stacking is facilitated by a jogger plate 38 which is reciprocated, against the action of a spring 40, by a rotating cam 43: the frame 35 is urged towards the jogger 38 by a spring 37, whereby the cards in the stack S are compressed. Stop plates 50, 51 and embossments 47 on the opposite side walls 19, 20 of the receptacle assist in guiding the edges of the falling cards. The falling cards are arrested by a pair of spring fingers 55 on the guide 27, these fingers being deflected by the weight of several cards thereon. The guide 27 has a roller 45 engaging the jogger 38, and a boss 46 on the jogger engages the roller to vibrate the guide. The shape of the guide 27 may be modified, and the spring fingers 55 may be omitted.
