865,931. Cutting-apparatus. GOWING, A. I., and GOWING, G. S. F., [trading as WILL, E. C. H. [Firm of]]. July 3, 1959 [July 18, 1958], No. 22989/59. Class 31 (1). Apparatus for continuously cutting and trimming booklets, stacks of paper and the like comprises a separating station 7 where a cutter 4 cuts a booklet 1 having a stapled edge 2 into two parts 5, 6, a spacing station 8 where two mechanically-driven slides 10, 11 move the parts 5, 6 equally in opposite directions to engage fixed stop-faces 12, 13, and a side cutting station 16 where cutters 14, 15 trim the edges of the parts 5, 6. At the cutting station 16, adjustable abutment flanges 17, 18 are provided with guide-in surfaces 19, 20. A separating part 9 is provided between the separating and spacing stations. The slides 10, 11 are pin-and-slot connected to rotatably-mounted levers 23, 26, Fig. 2, the lever 23 being driven from a reciprocating shaft 21 through a lever 22 and driving the lever 26 by means of a link 25. The levers 23, 26 are connected together by means of a return-spring 29. The stroke of the slides 10, 11 is adjustable.
