Abstract
865,865. Valves. INTERNATIONAL BASIC ECONOMY CORPORATION. Sept. 2, 1957 [April 17, 1957], No. 27559/57. Class 135. A valve for controlling fluid flow between an inlet 18 and outlet 22 comprises spaced seatings 32, 46 engageable by resilient O-ring seatings 38, 44 on differential pistons 36, 40 carried by a vertical plunger 34, movement of which is controlled by an electromagnetically operated plunger 72 controlling auxiliary valves 88, 104. The valve is shown in the closed position, the controlled fluid acting on the underside of piston 36 through permanently open passages 98, 100, and on the upper surface of the larger piston 40 through passages 78, 80, 82, 84, 86, past valve 88 which is held open by a biasing spring 77 acting on armature 72, and passages 92, 94. The valve is opened by energizing a solenoid 68 to raise armature 72, close valve 88 and open valve 104 to vent piston 40, the fluid acting on piston 36 lifting plunger 34. Upon de-energizing solenoid 68, or in the event of current failure, spring 77 moves armature 72 downwards to open valve 88 and close valve 104 so that the fluid again acts on piston 40 to close the valve. As shown the undersurface of piston 40 is vented to atmosphere through a passage 109, but in a modification, Fig. 4 (not shown), this surface may be in permanent communication with pressure inlet 18 and the undersurface of piston 36 vented to atmosphere.
