Abstract
The invention comprises chloroperoxides of formula: <FORM:0865324/IV (b)/1> where X1, X11 and X111 are the same or different alkyl groups which may contain a further chloroperoxy group or groups. They are prepared by passing gaseous chlorine into an aqueous alkaline solution of the corresponding tertiary alkyl hydroperoxide below -5 DEG C. until the pH falls to below 7. An electrolyte may be added to prevent freezing. An inert solvent for the chloroperoxide may be present to extract this as formed, e.g. a hydrocarbon, chlorinated hydrocarbon or ester.
