Abstract

<PICT:0865127/III/1> Liquid entering a cylindrical casing 3 at 22, passes through a gap 15, between a fixed cylindrical element 4 and a rotatable cylinder 14, where it is mixed with a gas, pulverulent solid, pulverulent suspension in a liquid, or a liquid, entering the gap through a pipe or pipes 23, the mixture being emulsified by passing successively through perforations 25 in fixed plates 6, 61, 611 and rotatable plates 16, 161, whereafter it passes between fixed and rotatable frusto-conical members 8, 18 and is finally discharged from the casing 3 through a tangential outlet 24. The fixed members 4, 6, 61, 611 and 8 have ribs engaging grooves in the casing 3 and are spaced by spacers 5, 7, 71 and 10. The rotatable members 14, 16, 161 and 18 are provided with grooves engaging ribs on a shaft driven by a motor 12, the members being spaced along the shaft by spacers 17, 171, 1711 and 19. Rotatable stuffing box springs 20, 21 are provided at the ends of the casing, which is surrounded by a jacket 26 for heating or cooling purposes. Several liquid inlets may be provided around the gap 15 and several apparatuses may be connected in series. Also several groups of plates may be provided on a single shaft, the groups being separated by means for introducing further components into the mixture. The apparatus may be used with corrosive liquids if parts are made of plastic.
