Abstract

865,037. Packaging. VOGT, C. W. Oct. 9, 1959, No. 34335/59. Class 94(1). A multi-unit package comprises a sheet 10 of plastic material shaped to form wedge-shaped receptacles 11 ... 14 with webs around their peripheries joining them at 15-17 in edge-toedge relation, and a cover sheet 20 closing the receptacles, the sheets 10, 20 being folded with the cover sheet 20 outward to form the sides of a square, or polygonal package with the receptacles extending inwardJy, see Fig. 6. The receptacles 11 ... 14 are filled with powdered or plastic materials before being closed by the sheet 20, sealed around the periphery of the sheet 10 and along the joins 15-17 and slits 22, 24, 37 &c. are provided in the flanges to facilitate detachment. The package is then folded at the web 16 to bring the side faces of the receptacles 12, 13 into engagement, and the receptacles 11, 14 then folded inwardly, end flaps 31, 32 sealed together and the flaps 33, 34 &c. extending from the ends of the package folded inwardly and secured by spot welding at 38, Fig. 7. Fig. 15 shows a cross-shaped reinforcing member which can be inserted between the receptacles when filled with fluent material such as flour to prevent deformation of the package. This member may be made from two or more sheets of cardboard slotted, sewn or stuck together.
