Abstract
850,599. Tunnels. LUBBERT, E., SCHULZ, E., FINSTERWALDER, U., JECHT, R., and RUF, E. March 12, 1957. [March 12, 1956], No. 8056/57. Class 85. A shield driven tunnel is lined with concrete which is stressed by axial and peripheral tension members embedded in the tunnel cross-section. The lining shown is built in sections formed by pre-cast concrete blocks 2,-7. After drain pipes 16 are laid and covered with cement the blocks 2 are set in position. A block 3 is placed on the blocks 2 and parts of peripheral tension members 13 anchored at 17 are threaded through the blocks 2, 3. Blocks 4 are placed adjacent the blocks 2 after the parts of the members 13 threaded therethrough are joined to the parts protruding from the blocks 2. Packing 15 is introduced at the joints of the blocks and the parts of axial tension members 14 are tensioned, and grouted into the blocks. Pressure bags 8 are placed in cavities 10 in the blocks 3, 4. The blocks 5, 6, 7 are positioned to complete the section, projections 9 on the blocks 5, 6 engaging the bags and the parts of the members 13 in the blocks 5, 7 being joined to the parts protruding from the sections 4. The tension members 13 are tensioned and anchored at 17 on the block 7 and the shield is advanced by the pressure of rams 1. After sand has been blown into the space between the tunnel opening and the lining, liquid cement is supplied to the bags to lift the block 5,-7 and to finally tension the members 13. The members 13 are grouted into the block, the remaining members 14 are fitted, tensioned and grouted into the blocks, liquid cement is injected into the sand, and the inside of the. lining section is covered with a layer of water tight material. Some or all of the blocks may be cast in situ.
