Abstract

Solid mouldable masses are obtained by treating soap at an elevated temperature with a liquid dioxolan containing substituents conferring both bifophilic and hydrophilic properties, preferably 2-dimethyl-4-hydroxymethyl-1 : 3-dioxolan in an amount of 27-70% by weight of the composition, and allowing the mixture to solidify. Glycerol, perfume and hexachlorophene may be incorporated, and the soap may be made in situ if desired by dissolving stearin in the dioxolan and then treating the solution with aqueous sodium hydroxide.ALSO:Solid mouldable masses, suitable for cosmetic or pharmaceutical use, are obtained by treating soap at an elevated temperature with a liquid dioxolan containing substituents conferring both lipophilic and hydrophilic properties, preferably 2 - dimethyl - 4 - hydroxymethyl - 1 : 3 - dioxolan in an amount of 27-70% by weight of the composition, and allowing the mixture to solidify. Glycerol, perfume, and hexachlorophene may be incorporated, and the soap may be made in situ, if desired, by dissolving stearin in the dioxolan and then treating the solution with aqueous sodium hydroxide.
