Abstract
In a fishing rod comprising a handle portion, an intermediate portion and a top portion, the stiffness of the handle portion decreases towards its free end and has an average value which is less than that of the adjacent lower portion of the intermediate portion. The stiffness of the handle decreases more rapidly along the portion adjacent its upper end than it does along the portion adjacent its free end. The handle comprises a core of hexagonal cross section and a cork sleeve. The core is tapered from the upper end to the lower end, the tapering being greater for the first one third of its length from the upper end. The cork sleeve tapers for the first one third of its length from the upper end, is cylindrical for the next third and tapers again for the last third. Two rings having recesses for receiving the ends of a mounting plate for a reel are adjustably secured to the cork sleeve. The intermediate and top portions of the rod taper from their lower ends to their top ends and are formed in sections, some of which are hexagonal in section, others circular. The rod may be made of cane, steel rod or tube, or fibre glass rod or tube.
