859,842. Fishing reels. YOUNG & SONS Ltd., J W. July 20, 1959 [July 22, 1958], No. 23444/58. Class 48. A cup shaped back plate a for a fishing reel is provided with headed studs d which are engaged with apertures in the back plate a, the shanks of the studs being grooved to co-operate with looped parts of springs e or pawls c controlled by a springs e. The heads of the studs and the apertures therefor in the back plate are stepped and the springs or pawls hold the studs in position with the heads of the studs flush with the rear face of the back plate. The pawls c have slots into which the shanks of the studs fit. A C-shaped spring wire guard g, Fig. 3, is mounted on three pillars h mounted on pins i extending from bosses a <5> on the back plate. The wire guard has arcuate grooves g<1> which co-operate with the heads i 1 of the pins i and the pillars h have slots h<1> which co-operate with the wire guard g.
