859,817. Photomechanical printing surfaces. BEKK & KAULEN CHEMISCHE FABRIK G.m.b.H. May 10, 1957 [Sept. 22, 1956], No. 14920/57. Class 98(2) Separate copies of the individual colours of a picture pattern are made by drawing or tracing on transparent sheets, copies of these monochromes are made by drawing or photographic means on transparent synthetic plastic foil, and the plastic foil reproductions are transferred photographically to a printing surface with copying of a screen or hatching during a photographic operation. The method is especially suitable for making intaglio rollers for printing textiles and packaging materials, and advantages thereof include avoidance of use of a process camera, facility of superimposition of the firstmade copies for comparison with the original and touching up if required; and the dimensionstability of the synthetic plastic foil, which may be of polyvinyl chloride, in the later operations. The copy for blue colour may be made in black for the better photographic reproduction of the latter.
