Abstract

859,429. Light refractors. ASSOCIATED ELECTRICAL INDUSTRIES Ltd. Aug. 28, 1959 [Sept. 8, 1958], No. 28802/58. Class 75(2). A trough of light transmitting material for use in lighting fittings, especially fluorescent lamp fittings, produced by an extrusion process has at least one longitudinally extending channel formed by offsetting a portion of the material of the trough relative to adjacent portions. In one form, a U-shape trough 1 having inturned flanges 2 has a concave channel 3 formed in the middle of the bottom 4. The sides 5 and the channel 3 may be provided internally with a set of light directing prisms 6 and the remainder of the bottom 4 and the inturned flanges 2 with diffusive reeding 7. In a modification, the bottom corners of the trough may be offset outwards and sideways. The angles between the sides and the inturned flanges may also be offset outwards. The prismatic surfaces and diffusive reeding may be variously arranged on the inner and outer surfaces of the trough.
