Abstract

The invention comprises 5-substituted-dibenzocycloheptadienes and 5-substituted dibenzocycloheptatrienes and their acid-addition and quaternary salts in which the 5-substituent is an alkylidene radical containing more than two carbon atoms and bearing one or more disubstituted amino groups, optionally bearing additional alkyl, alkoxy and/or halogeno substituents on the dibenzocycloheptene ring and their preparation by treating a 5-aminoalkyl-5-hydroxy-dibenzocycloheptadi (or tri) ene with a dehydrating agent, e.g. alcoholic hydrogen chloride, and transforming the product into the free base or an acid-addition or quaternary salt as required. Preferred products are 5-(o -dimethylaminopropylidene), dibenzocycloheptadiene, dibenzocycloheptatriene and 3-chlorodibenzocycloheptadiene and 5-(o -piperidino-propylidene)-dibenzo cycloheptadiene.
