A mixture based on an organopolysiloxane and forming silicone rubber by cold-setting of the kind described in Specification 764,246 is used as a sealing compound in an electric heating element, the parts to be sealed together being first coated with a substance such as an alkyl polysilicate to promote the adhesion of the silicone rubber thereto.
