Class 37 In an arrangement for manufacturing capacitors by depositing on a support 1, Fig. 1, of ceramic or glass superposed layers 4-8 formed alternatively of an electrically conductive material and of a dielectric material. Supports 1 are mounted on a spindle 19 in lugs 17, 18 projecting from radial arms 15, and the arms are rotated about a central spindle 16 so that the supports pass over apertures 12, 121, 12<SP>11</SP> above sources 14 of vapourised metal and dielectric so that the layers are alternately applied. Aluminium, beryllium and zinc are mentioned as electrodes and a mixture of oxides and metallic salts such as barium titanate or lacquers of high homogeneity, as the dielectric. The spindles 19 are rotated during the rotation of arms 15 about a central spindle 16 by friction rollers 20. The depositions may be controlled by varying the speed of rotation, and measurements of capacity and dielectric strength may be made over rubbing contacts 21, 22. The arrangement shown which is suitable for a two electrode single layer capacitor may be modified by the addition of further screened sources to provide a multiplicity of layers for each electrode. The apertures are staggered radially to form electrodes insulated from one another but in contact with the metallised ends 2, 3, of the base, and their edges are shaped to produce an even deposit.
