Class 81(2) [Also in Group XXVIII] A portable hair dryer comprises a drying motor 12 for discharging heated air, an attachment for directing heated air on to the hair and a hose 16 which transmits heated air to the attachment and has on at least one end an adaptor 18 with an outer tapered surface 26 which engages a tapered recess in the attachment. A two-part adaptor 60 attached to the lower part of a rubberized fabric drying hood 14 comprises a tubular element having a cylindrical recess 64 and stepped ring which is received by the recess 64, the material 46 of the hood being damped between the element and the ring. The element also has a tapering recess 28 which receives the tapered external surface 26 of a hose adaptor 18. The hood comprises sheet material 46 seamed to form a cylinder, a circular top 50 and an elastic strip 56 at the lower edge. A Loop 49 is sewn to the seam between the sides and top. Air outlet perforations are formed at the front of the hood. A circular lip 30 extends inwardly of the free end of the adaptor 18 and may be pushed over. a circular rib 32 on a tubular connector 34 at the outlet of a dryer 12 to connect the hose which has an adaptor 18 at each end to the drying motor 12., The tapered external surface 26 of either adaptor 18 may alternatively be received by a tapered tubular portion 74 of a hair-drying comb 72. The adaptors 18 are made of rubber and when positioned in the comb 72 heat-insulates the tubular portion 74. The comb 72 is generally tubular and has a cut-away air outlet 78 through which teeth 84 extend. The hose above connected to the dryer 12 may be used as a dryer for the hands.
