Abstract

856,599. Axial-flow compressor stator blade assemblies. GENERAL MOTORS CORPORATION. May 4, 1959 [June 16, 1958], No. 15121/59. Classes 110 (1) and 110 (3). In an axial-flow compressor, a ring of stator blades comprising inner and outer shroud rings interconnected by blades is supported from the casing by means of circumferentially distributed flexible metal members each fixed at one end to the casing by means of a nut and bolt assembly and at the other end to the outer shroud ring. The compressor shown in Figs. 2 and 3 comprises a rotor 28 carrying rotor blades 24 and a casing 30 carrying stator blades 26, also stationary shroud rings 80 disposed around the tips of the rotor blades. The stator blades are mounted at their outer ends in a supportring 25 comprising a channelsection ring-member 50 and a plain ring-member 52 secured together at 54, 56, and at their inner ends in a support-ring 27 comprising a pair of channel-section ring-members 34, 36 connected together at 40, 42. The stator blades assemblies are each made in two semi-circular parts. Each stator blade assembly is supported from the compressor casing 30 by means of obliquely-inclined flexible strip members 60 secured at their inner ends to the outer surface of the ring member 50 at circumferentiallyspaced intervals and at their outer ends to nut members 62. The nut members 62 abut against bushes 64 and are secured thereto by means of bolts 70. The stationary shroud ring 80 is similarly supported from the stator casing by means of flexible strip members 76 each secured at one end to the shroud ring and at the other end to a nut member 74 which is secured against a bush 72 by means of a bolt 82. The bolts 70 and 82 are disposed in circumferential alignment within a channel-section reinforcing ring member 68. The inner and outer supportrings 27, 25 are arranged to form seals with the rotor and rotor blade shrouds respectively. The adjacent ends of the stator blade support-ring segments 50, 52, also of the rotor blade shroudring segments 80, are locked together by means of a toggle looking clip 98, 102, as shown in Fig. 3. In the embodiment shown in Fig. 5, the flexible strips 124 supporting the outer stator blade support-ring 118, 120 are of U-shape and are connected to the casing 30 by means of a bolt and nut assembly 130, 126 disposed in the same transverse plane as the stator blades 26. In a further embodiment, the flexible strips supporting the outer stator blade support-ring are flat as in the first embodiment but are connected to the outer casing by bolt and nut means radially outwardly of the stator blades as in the embodiment shown in Fig. 5.
