Abstract
855,408. Soil stabilization; well-boring apparatus. COTTON, G. March 4, 1959 [March 5, 1958], No. 7146/58. Classes 68(1) and 85. Freezing of the bottom of a bore hole is caused by the adiabatic expansion of air or gas as it is exhausted from ports 27, 28 in a drill bit 16 rotatably mounted on the lower end of a string of drill pipes. The air as it leaves the ports 27 causes rotation of the bit.
