Abstract

A gasoline composition comprises a lead alkyl and/or aryl compound, from 0.8 to 1.8 theories based on the lead of a halogen-containing scavenger and an organic compound of copper in an amount such that the copper-to-lead atom ratio is from 0.1:1 to 0.26:1. The composition may contain from 1.58 to 4.86 grams of elemental lead per U.S. gallon. In examples gasoline and anti-knock compositions contain tetraethyl lead, tetramethyl lead, tetrabutyl lead, tetraoctyl lead, tetraamyl lead, methyl triethyl lead, tetrapropyl lead, tetrahexyl lead, tetraphenyl lead and dimethyl-dibutyl lead; ethylene dibromide, ethylene dichloride, 1,4-dichlorobutane, propylene dibromide, b ,b 1-dibromodiethyl ether, dibromotoluene, 1,2,4-trichlorobenzene, acetylene tetrabromide, hexachlorobutadiene, ethyl-a -bromoacetate, 1,1-dichloro-2-nitroethane, 2,3-dibromobutane, carbon tetrachloride, tert.-butylbromide, propylenedichloride, bromoxylenes, 1-bromo-3-hydroxypropane, b ,b 1-dichlorodiethylether, 1,2,3-tribromopropane, 1,5-dichloropentane and 2-methyl-2-bromobutane; and the cupric derivative of 4-ethylimino-2-buten-2-ol, the cupric derivative of 5,51-(tetramethylenedinitrilo)-di-3-nonen-3-ol, the cupric derivative of 1-alkylimino-4,4-dimethyl-2-penten-3-ol, methylcyclopentadienyl copper carbonyl, the cupric derivative of 4,41-(ethylenedinitrilo)-di-2-penten-2-ol, the cupric derivative of 3,31-(ethylenedinitrilo)-bis-(1-phenyl-1-octen-1-ol), the cupric derivative of 3-ethylimino-1-propen-1-ol, cyclopentadienyl copper didecyl, the cupric derivative of 4-methylimino-2-buten-2-ol, the dimethylcyclohexoxy cupric derivative of 1-methylimino-2-hexen-3-ol, phenylcyclopentadienyl copper carbonyl, the cupric derivative of 4-alkylimino-2-buten-2-ol, the cupric derivative of 4,41-(2-hexyltrimethylenedinitrilo) -bis-(5-phenyl-2-penten-2-ol), cyclopentedienyl copper methyl hydride, the cupric derivative of 1-alkylimino-5,51-dimethyl-2-hexen-3-ol, the methoxy cupric derivative of 4,4-dimethyl-1-methylimino-2-penten-3-ol, the cupric derivative of 3,31-(ethylenedinitrilo)-di-1-propen-1-ol, the cupric derivative of 3-alkylimino-1-phenyl-1-propen-1-ol, the cupric derivative of 3,31-(pentamethylenedinitrilo)-bis-(1-phenyl-1-buten-1-ol), dipropyl cyclopentadienyl copper carbonyl, and the cupric derivative of 2-methyl-3-methylimino-1-propen-1-ol.
