Abstract

In the production of artificial threads by spinning viscose into a precipitation bath containing acid and salt and stretching the threads in a hot stretching bath containing dilute acid and, if desired, salt, the stretch tension of the freshly spun threads is decreased and their stretchability increased by passing them through a cold water intermediate bath at a temperature of 15-35 DEG C. prior to entering the hot stretching bath. The intermediate water bath may contain a small amount of acid such that the water squeezed out from the spun thread before entering the stretching bath has an acid content of 2-30 g/kg. The cold intermediate bath may also contain up to 10 g/kg. of formaldehyde. An ethenoxylated coconut oil amine may be added to the viscose prior to extrusion.
