Abstract

841,216. Opening bales of fibres. DOWNS & SON Ltd., E.W. May 22, 1958 [May 22, 1957], No. 16221/57. Class 120(1). A bale opening machine for hard pressed bales of coir fibre and similar material has a movable platform mounted-for reciprocation in an inclined plane beneath a rotor carrying beater arms. The beater arms b may be free to swing on the rotor or may be fixed. A bale c is first placed on a movable platform k, then rolled on to platform e and the platform k is locked in position behind it. As the platform e carrying the bale is slowly raised up an inclined guide track d, the beater arms a throw portions of the bale on to a conveyer belt o for transfer to a carding machine. The platform e is, by mechanism described, moved slowly upwardly and returned to the starting position quickly.
