848,844. Indicating-apparatus. HORNE, R. F. (Roggan, F. H.). July 30, 1957, No. 24125/57. Class 106 (4). [Also in Group XI] The dial 23 of an instrument mounted in a panel 18 is illuminated by a lamp 20 whence all rays projected from the face Y of a prism 15 are directed toward the dial 23. The angular disposition of the faces X, Y of the prism 15 are suitably related to ensure this result having regard to the refractive index of the material, e.g. Lucite. In order to concentrate a beam on a particular area the faces X, Y may be curved to form a segment of a lens. Lamps 20 lie between front and rear opaque panels 18, 19 which, together with an opaque, resilient gasket 21 and a black, roughened coating 17, seal the assembly against leakage of light. A panel 24 of a fluorescent plastic may be inserted between the panels 18, 19 to improve the concentration and distribution of light on the face X and the edge 25 may be bevelled to increase illumination near the centre of the dial. The light-conducting panel 24 may occupy the whole space between the front and rear opaque surfaces of the panel and itself carry the lamps 20.
