Abstract

848,476. Welding by fusion. STEWARTS & LLOYDS Ltd. May 6,1959 [March 17, 1958], No. 8405/58. Class 83 (4). [Also in Group XXVIII] In welding together lined pipes 10, 10A the ends of the pipes are swelled as at 11, 12 and 11A, 12A respectively and an insert 14 having a lining 18 continuous with that of the pipes is fitted within the portions 11, 11A to provide an annular air space 21 between the insert and the pipes to prevent overheating of the lining during welding. The insert 14 is secured to the portion 11 by circumferentially spaced plug welds 16. A backing ring 22 may be inserted.
