Abstract
847,378. Travelling jib cranes. SCOTT & CO. (ELECTRICAL ENGINEERS) Ltd. Aug. 7, 1957 [May 7,1956], No. 14055/56. Class 78 (4). A guard system for preventing the jibs of two or more travelling cranes from getting dangerously close comprises guard models each of which rotates in accordance with the rotattion of a corresponding jib, while at least one can move towards and away from the others in accordance with the relative movement of the cranes. The models generate a warning signal when they contact one another. As shown, metal templates A, B surround models 6a, 6b representing plan views of the slewing jibs of two travelling cranes using the same set of rails. The templates and models are fixed to shafts 5a, 5b and are made by known electronic means to follow the slewing movements of the jibs. The shafts are mounted on carriages 7, 17, of which the latter is fixed and the former is made, also by known electronic means, to move along a track 8 so that the distance between the jib models gives a scale representation 'of the distance between the jibs. Contact of the templates A, B generates a warning signal and may also cut off the power.to the cranes: The templates may be resiliently mounted to allow for movement of the models during braking. The indicating and warning apparatus is repeated and is mounted in the driver's cab of each crane. The system may be extended to jibs which luff.
