Abstract

847,203. Gravity-separation apparatus. LAUTRICH, R. Oct. 18, 1958, No. 33335/58. Class 46. Untreated liquid introduced at 5, Fig. 1, to a tank 1 is divided by tongues 7 into two streams, one of these passing between the tongues along a "bridge" 8, (a continuation of the base 6), until it descends at 8a, Fig. 5, into a distributing channel 3, whence it flows through two rows of passages 9 into the tank interior. The second "stream" temporarily forms two portions, each passing outside one of the tongues 7 and descending at the edge 6a of the base 6, Fig. 4, the two portions recombining beneath the "bridge" 8 in a second distributing channel 4 communicating with the tank interior by passages 10. In Fig. 3 (not shown), distributing channels 3 and 4 are provided on the outside of a circular tank, but are divided by radial partitions into sectors each having a feed conduit 5 associated with it. In Fig. 7, liquid introduced at 19 flows partly into a distributing chamber 14 and partly through a supplementary conduit 20 into an upper distributing chamber 15. Solids from chamber 14 pass at 17 into a sump 13. Apertures for solids from chamber 15 may also be provided in the base 18 of chamber 15. In Fig. 9 (not shown), the upper chamber 15 is fed by overflow from a single pipe extending upwardly into it from outside the tank, whilst in the lower chamber, around that pipe, is arranged a funnel-shaped overflow in two parts, each fed by a separate pipe. In all cases the purified liquid may be discharged in an analogous manner. Fig. 12 shows such an arrangement at the periphery of a circular tank, Fig. 13 showing a cross-section where the upper discharge channel 26 communicates by overflow edge 30 with discharge conduit 31.
