Abstract
<PICT:0844823/III/1> <PICT:0844823/III/2> <PICT:0844823/III/3> A method of carrying out physical and chemical processes between finely divided inert or catalytic solids and gases characterized in that the gases are injected in a substantially vertical direction and below the surface of the bed of the solids from a plurality of nozzles arranged in a row or from a slit-type nozzle at a velocity which is several times greater than the gravitational speed of the descent of the coarsest particles, thereby to form one of several stationary gyrating cyclonic whirling fronts which involve the entire cross section of the bed. Finely divided inert or catalytic solid or liquid substances may be introduced in proximity to the several nozzles or the slittype nozzle so as to react with the substances. A cylindrical reaction chamber 1 is fed with solid material through regulating gate valve 2 and with gases through an annulus of nozzles 9 see Fig. 3. Solid is withdrawn via gravity pipe 3 while the gases are separated from solid material in the cyclonic separator 4 and the solid is collected and returned via pipe 5 and covered distributer 6 to the bed. A different type of nozzle injection is shown in Fig. 1.
