Abstract

833,179. Grinding. CELTIC-SWISS PRECISION CO. Ltd. July 23, 1958, No. 23792/58. Class 60. [Also in Group XXXIV] In a precision bearing for a rotary spindle, e.g. of a precision grinding machine, a spindle consisting of telescopic and drivingly interconnected inner and outer parts. 3, 4 is rotatably received in a stationary sleeve 1, flanges 10, 11 on the outer ends of the parts 3, 4 being urged respectively towards the corresponding ends of the sleeve 1 by means of a tension spring 8 accommodated within the hollow spindle part 3. The spring 8 is stretched between pins 7,9 fixed respectively to the opposite ends of the spindle parts 3, 4, the pin 7 extending with a driving key 6 through a slot 5 in the part 4. The ends of the sleeve 1 are inwardly bevelled at an angle of 45 degrees at 12, 13 to define, with the neighbouring spindle parts 3, 4, bearing races which are of triangular crosssection and accommodate balls 14. The spindle 3, 4 carries a drive pulley 15 at one end and a grindstone 16 at the other. Extension sleeves 18, 19 fitted respectively to the flanges 10, 11, shield the ball races.
