Abstract
Gases enriched in hydrocarbons having two or more carbon atoms are obtained from gases having a low content of these hydrocarbons by absorbing the hydrocarbons in a liquid solvent, expelling the hydrocarbons by heat or expansion and further concentrating the expelled gas by absorption on active carbon. The process is suitable for recovering ethylene. Benzene is the preferred solvent, the gas being absorbed under pressure and the pressure released in stages. The product from the first two stages, e.g. down to atmospheric pressure also contains undesirable gases and is concentrated by active carbon. Gases obtained by further reduction of pressure need no further concentration.
