Two electric cables from fixed electricity source 1 are led to crane 4 by pulleys 3, 3a, 3b, cable 2 passing via one way around the pulleys and cable 6 passing via the other way around the pulleys so that the crane reciprocates and causes the carriage 5 to reciprocate and to take up slack. Screw device 7 tensions the cables. The cables may each incorporate a chain, and the carriage may be composed of a plurality of articulated part carriages.
