Abstract
839,141. Copy-making paper. KALAMAZOO Ltd. Sept. 30, 1958 [Nov. 21, 1957], No. 36277/57. Class 96. A primary copy-making paper stationery sheet has on at least one of its surfaces a donor film formed from a pigmented colloidal emulsion, the dispersed phase of which consists of a mixture of Spirit Blue base and a waxy material, e.g. a soft ester wax known as Hoechst B.J. wax (bleached) mixed with dibutyl phthalate and, if desired, with stearic acid and potassium carbonate and the continuous phase is a watersoluble film-forming substance, e.g. methyl cellulose. A barrier coating, e.g. of methyl cellulose and potassium carbonate may be applied, in the form of an aqueous solution, to the paper prior to the pigmented emulsion. The surface of a secondary sheet on which the copy is received is preferably coated with an acidic acceptor coating, e.g. consisting of china clay, staich, and rosin size, or methyl cellulose, colloidal silica and phosphoric acid which reacts with the donor coating when transferred under the impact of typing or pressure from a pen or pencil to give a blue dye salt. When a plurality of copies are required, each secondary sheet is provided with a donor coating on one side and an acceptor coating on the other side.
